Peace of Green Potter, Janet Johnson, discovered her passion for clay in 1979 when she began a three-year Fine Arts course in Brisbane. What started as a fascination with the expressive possibilities of ceramics soon grew into a lifelong creative journey. By the end of 1981, that passion had taken shape as Glasshouse Pottery, a studio dedicated to crafting beautiful, enduring ceramics that celebrate both artistry and everyday living.

For more than four decades, Janet has been creating an impressive collection of decorative vessels, sculptural forms, and functional domestic ware. Each piece is thoughtfully designed and individually handcrafted, reflecting her deep appreciation for the natural qualities of clay and the quiet beauty found in handmade objects. Her work balances elegance with practicality, inviting people to bring art into their daily routines rather than reserving it for special occasions.

A defining feature of Janet's ceramics is her rich and varied palette of glazes. Developed and refined through years of experimentation and experience, these distinctive colours enhance the unique character of every piece. From earthy, organic tones to vibrant, luminous finishes, her work offers something to complement a wide range of homes and personal styles, while celebrating the subtle variations that make handmade pottery so special.

Inspired by the Australian landscape and the simple pleasure of creating objects that enrich everyday life, Janet believes pottery should be experienced through touch as much as sight. Every bowl, mug, platter, and vase is made to be enjoyed, used, and cherished for years to come.

As Janet says, “I want people to hold, to feel, and to use the pots I make—not just put them away in the cupboard.”
