Pechey Sandals
Leather Worker
Hand made by Gillian Pechey at her workshop just 10 minutes from picturesque Maleny, on the Sunshine Coast hinterland in Queensland, Pechey Sandals are made for walking. They are adjustable, and after a short breaking-in time, become very comfortable and they last for years.
Gillian's sandals are made from hand-selected leather sourced locally from Packers’ Tannery Nerangba in Qld and quality sole materials. The leather was originally known as ‘football leather’ as it was used to make footballs because It is durable and flexible. Comfort and longevity of Pechey Sandals are assured by regular use of a leather dressing. Colours are dark brown, and a lighter tan colour. On larger sized sandals I’m still using ‘olympic rubber’ which is harder-wearing and heavier than the nora.
Pechey Sandals are designed for street walking and easy tracks, rather than rugged bush hiking. You can buy them off-the-shelf at Peace of Green Gallery in Maleny or just contact Gillian for a custom-made pair of sandals.
