Potter, sculptor & workshop host, Cathy Lawley has gained recognition in media and on television for her earthy, whimsical art and raku clay firing techniques. She regularly showcases her work galleries and art festivals across Queensland. Luckily for both locals and visitors of the Sunshine Coast, Cathy offers her expertise through engaging workshops at her Friedmudd Studio in Noosa.

 

For Cathy, working with clay has always been a therapeutic experience. Each creation sparks a story in her mind, often inspired by the people around her, nature, or animals. "These stories lend a unique personality and character to my pieces," she shares. Cathy discovered her passion for clay while raising her four children, attending numerous classes and workshops along the way.

 

"Playing with clay on my parents' dairy farm as a child fostered an emotional bond with it," she reflects. "Spending my days immersed in nature inspired my creativity more than anything else." The tactile process of shaping clay is what Cathy enjoys most. "Connecting with the earth is grounding; time flies as I lose myself in the moment, rediscovering the joy of childhood," she explains. "It brings me joy to know that my creations, whether whimsical or sleek and modern, are cherished in homes across Australia and around the world by those who felt compelled to own a piece of my work."
